Two men have
been sentenced to death and one to life in jail for the murder of a 28 year old
woman in the year 2009.
The woman, who was an operations manager with a consultancy firm, was kidnapped and killed after she was dropped off by her office cab near her home in Vasant Vihar in south Delhi. Her body was found three days later on the outskirts of Delhi, near Surajkund in Haryana.
The three men whose names are Ravi Kapoor, Baljeet and Amit Shukla were found
guilty of killing her and using her debit card for a shopping spree at a popular
market. They were caught on CCTV cameras buying watches, shoes and sunglasses. The police
had asked for the death penalty for all three; said that they had killed her which
was obvious from the CCTV footage."
On July 14,
the court said that it was clear that the three men had killed Jigisha Ghosh.
"They committed her murder and disposed of her body in the bushes.
Circumstantial evidence makes it clear that it was these men who committed the
crime," the court said, handing down a guilty verdict.
Baljeet and Amit Shukla have spent over seven years in jail, while Ravi Kapoor had requested for an easier sentence due a life threatening disease that he suffers from.
