The mother of a child who died after being left in a hot car by her father has requested that all charges be dropped.

The woman, whose name is Shanice Caradine, signed a letter asking the court to drop all charges against the father of the child.
The 25 year old Joshua Blunt is charged with manslaughter after for leaving the child in a care while he went to work.

Blount's attorney Carlos Moore said he hopes Grenada County District Attorney Doug Evans will drop the charges. Moore said it was his understanding that Evans was pursuing the manslaughter charge at the mother's request.

Evans said despite the mother’s request to drop the charges, his office is still pursuing the manslaughter charge against Blunt.

Moore has accused Evans who is white, of pursuing the manslaughter charge because Blunt is black, calling the charge an example of "blatant racism."

Less than two weeks before the death of the child, 2-year-old baby died after she was left in a hot car in Madison County by her mother, who is white. Charges have not been filed against the mother related to the toddler's death.

Evans insisted that he took the case to the grand jury because of the facts of the case. He declined to elaborate further, citing a pending trial.

Blunt's court date is scheduled for Aug 18, but presiding Judge George Mitchell said an order to continue will be entered by Friday.
