At the initial stage, she said, the lady was so kind to her and she sees her like her own mom and would call her mom. As time goes, things began to change, the woman started maltreating her by increasing the workload that she does on daily basis. She would work for 20 hours a day doing domestic chores and ironing clothes. According to her, the quantity of food that is being given to her reduced and sometimes she would not be given food for 5 days and would always sleep on the floor.

As if the punishment was not enough, the lady started beating her and to make matters worse for her, she put her in chains, the chains was put on her neck and on her waist so that she could be able to be ironing clothes. She spent about six months in chains while working for the lady. She recalls how her captors would peel off the scabs from her skin, scratch her neck with their fingernails and used iron to burn her in the head.
After five long years in captivity, Zunduri was finally able to escape in April 2015.
Zunduru is now celebrating her freedom from her captors
In April 2015, she managed to escape when the woman who chained her left the chain a little loosed. After her escape, her case was taken to the authorities and police raided the house where she had been held captive and arrested five adults who are facing charges of human trafficking and exploitation. According to the law, the offence is punishable by 40 years in prison.

Juana Camila Bautista, a special prosecutor in charge of combating human trafficking in Mexico City, said that members of the family treated the girl badly in some form and that during investigation; blood stains found in multiple places around the dry cleaners matched the girl’s DNA.

Since her escape, she has undergone a number of medical examinations as part of her recovery and the doctors determined that her body and her internal organs were similar to those of an 80-year-old person,

According to the girl, her dream is to become a pastry chef and open her own bakery.

Just as the Bible said, “fear not he who would destroy the body but cannot destroy the soul” she was held captive, tortured, denied the freedom of her life but her spirit is not destroyed.
She was not discouraged by difficulty, danger and disappointment. Her spirit was stable and she believes she would be free one day and here she is telling her story to the whole world.
