A mother of
three had just finished a half marathon when she collapsed and later died.
Lindsay Doherty,
of Pennsylvania, crossed the finish line at the Scranton Half Marathon Sunday
when she suddenly dropped to the ground.
The Morning
Call reported that medical workers, including two emergency room
physicians, rushed to her aid and Doherty was taken via ambulance to Geisinger
Community Medical Center.
Nydaily news
reports that the 36 year old Doherty, who had previously competed in the race,
died in the emergency room shortly after arriving.
The Lackawanna County Coroner labeled her
death as natural telling WNEP
that she died from a ruptured vein that led to abdominal bleeding.
Coroner Tim Rowland said the condition is
very rare and the medical professionals who tended to her at the race did
everything they could to save her.
