A 47-year-old man, Magaji Mohammed, who
allegedly impregnated his sister in-law through rape, was on Monday brought
before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, a driver who resides at 18,
Atobaje St., Agege, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge bordering
on rape.
The prosecutor, Inspector Clifford Ogu, told
the court that the accused committed the offence on November 2016 and February
28, 2017 in his residence.
Ogu said the accused raped his 16-year-old
sister-in-law, impregnated her and gave her a harmful drug to use with the
intention to abort it.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections
147 and 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The chief magistrate, Mrs. Taiwo Akanni, granted him bail
of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case has been adjourned until April 12.
