A 47 year old woman has survived a fall from a burning third floor flat.

Footage of the rescue shows the woman hanging by her fingers from the building’s window ledge as smoke billows from the property in Cedeira, Spain.
The woman’s husband had been with her in the apartment before the fire broke out, but decided to take the couple’s dogs for a walk, evading the deadly smoke.
Upon his return, he helped organize the rescue blankets which saved his wife’s life.
The woman falls rapidly and painfully glances off the building’s surface before landing on blankets below.

According to emergency services, the fire was sparked when a fuse box caught fire in the block of flats.
Firemen present at the incident said that the blaze was relatively small, but it produced a significant amount of smoke which made it impossible for the woman to breathe in the flat.

The local civil protection service said the woman’s mistake had been neglecting to close the door between her and the smoke.

A spokesman told local media that the correct behavior in cases like this is to close the door of the house, go to a room with window in order to breathe and close the door of the room, If possible, it would be great to block the door with wet blankets or something similar in order to avoid the smoke. This he said should allow emergency services to have the time to carry out a rescue.”
