WOMAN TRAPPED IN A RIVER AFTER CAR FELL INTO RIVER

 

An accident has occurred along Ife-Ibadan Expressway on Monday when a vehicle conveying three occupants including a couple plunged into the Asejire Dam.

Asejire Dam is the boundary between Osun and Oyo State.

Two male occupants of the car which submerged in the river were rescued alive by the local divers but the only female occupant in the car could not be brought out of the water for over one hour after the accident.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said that the blue color vehicle first hit the concrete at the edge of the bridge before somersaulting into the river.

The husband of the woman who was trapped inside the submerged car was heard asking for his wife’s whereabouts when he was rescued.

A police patrol van that arrived at the scene took the victims to a hospital towards Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Passengers who trooped to the scene told Punch correspondent that the accident was a common occurrence as there are no railings supporting the bridge.
